Greetings Listers,
I am working on an arrangemnet of "And All That Jazz" from Chicago. How
do I indicate that I want the trumpet to use a plunger? Is there an
articulation that I can use?
Usual indication is "plunger ad lib". The player would know what to do. Occasionally you need to mark an open or closed, that is done with o or + over the note respectively, as an articulation.
Closed to open on the same note can be notated o+, or with the text expression "wah" or "wop" depending on whether the note is long or short.
I am thinking of using what looks like an upward slur before the note...but I don't know how to make one.
You're thinking of a scoop, which usually applies to pitch, not to the plunger. There isn't a great one in the JazzFont, but the character in slot 202 is what I use, which is in my default file in the Articulation Tool slot #67 (I don't remember whether or not I put it there myself or if it came that way.)
FinMac 2K3 with the Jazz Font.
