Despite contary opinions from others, I believe redirecting your temp files to a ram disk could make a great deal of difference in the redraw speed. Although I have not tried this with Fin04 or OSX, I know my experience with MacFin03 bears this out.


I can tell instantly if I've lost my redirection of temp files to ram disk in Fin03. All it takes is a sizeable file, and the redraws are much, much slower w/o the ram disk. This likely has nothing to do with the OS and everything to do with difference in speed between reading and writing files to ram vs. hard disk. Back in my school days, the analogy was something like this: if computers were proportionally slowed down so that memory accesses took 2 seconds, then a hard disk access would take 2 weeks.

It is true that modern hard disks are faster and have sophisticated built-in caching, but memory is faster too.
