Try setting everything the way you want then go to Options| Program 
Options| View and be sure to check the boxes for 'Save window states 
when exiting Finale' and 'Load window states when starting Finale'. 
Click OK then exit Finale. When you restart it, it should be just the 
way you want. Once I get the view I want to load reliably, I usually go 
back in and uncheck 'Save window states when exiting Finale' so that any 
temporary changes I make or any strange behavior I might get from having 
Finale minimized does not get saved and reloaded when I exit. Hope this

screen, using the "Contemporary" palette. I like the tools in a certain

    Extenuating circumstances: I can get a single strip only if I switch 
to "Classic" palette. That will stay and appear the next time I open 
Finale. But the preferred position order will not. If, before I close 
the file, I change back to Contemporary palette, it will not stay there 
and the order will be back to a default setting.
    Also, I have always been important to Save the file and also, under 
Edit/Save Special, do Save Prefs. To no avail.
    Any solutions come to mind?
