I think it's pretty much an implicit right to quote, as long as you maintain the attributions, since that's part of the flow and the culture of mailing lists. And you could almost certainly claim the fair use (fair dealing in Canada and the UK) exception even if Johannes decided to be an ass and deny you the right to quote his posts. -- David W.
