I don't quite understand why you need a file for playback that is
different from your file for printing.

How, exactly, does prepping a Finale file for playback mess up the
printing? That has always been my goal, and is, perhaps, why many
people can't understand my objections to the way Finale works. Most
of my needs for subclassing come about precisely because I want
things that look identical onscreen to work differently in different
contexts. Right now, the only way to do that is to multiple the
definitions of the identically-appearing items, which leads to
difficulties in managing the definitions (because of the multiplicity
of identical items; I do understand that the annotations for
expressions helps this, but that still leaves articulations).

I can't imagine forking my files for playback, because much of my
playback preparation causes me to change my editing -- it's how I
figure out where editorial dynamics and articulations are necessary.
Having to then go back and transfer the editorial additions into the
printed score would be a complete pain, and something I just don't
see as necessary in any way.

If you're going to use a different file for playback, why not just
save your printable score as MIDI then use a sequencer to tweak
playback? Why use Finale at all for creating a playback file if
you're going to fork your playback from the printed score?
