Having just recently gone through the process of producing parts from 
several multi-movement pieces entered in individual movement files, 
I'd really recommend *not* breaking up the work into multiple files. 
The problems are legion.

Yes, Patterson's plugins give you the workaround, but there are some 
things that occasionally can get lost (though not always, such as 
cautionary accidentals) for which there are no workarounds.

In any event, if you're going to assemble something, I'd assemble the 
scores into a single score so that I would then not have to repeat 
the Mass Copy plugin for each movement for each part, but only once 
for each movement.

I don't know what the performance problems are on the Mac with large 
files, but the only real annoyance I've encountered with my large 
files is the long pause for the Autosave, compared to the smaller 
individual files.

Whatever happens, it sounds like you're in for an unpleasant time. :(
