There was actually a lot of discussion of this feature during the beta period, but the consensus seemed to be "leave staff line smoothing off by default." Unfortunately, this (necessarily) sometimes makes some notes look like they sit too high on staff lines or spaces.

I should add that Sibelius has the same problem, and staff line smoothing is turned off by default in Sib as well. Most people seem to find staff line smoothing itself more annoying than dealing with notes that sit too high on the lines/spaces at small reductions.
