I pulled out what German scores I had with critical reports, and it turns out that you're right, that the term I'm probably recalling is "Lesartenverzeichnis," which is used, for instance, in the Henle Haydn Gesamtausgabe. In English, there's a term for something similar, an "eggcorn" (a misformed back construction caused by a misperception of the original; "eggcorn" is a misperception of "acorn"; see http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/ for a database attempting to track them), and it seems that I incompletely perceived the term way back when, and using the incomplete perception, incorporated the incorrect word into my memory. A "catalog of readings" would be an English version that means what I *thought* my imaginary German term meant. But somehow it doesn't have the specificity that my made-up term had in my head.
