Woodcrest, Conroe, and Merom are all derivatives of
the same Core architecture, and according to many
sources are all variants of the "core 2 duo."

Yeah -- isn't that what I said?

"Yonah" = Core Duo. Generation One of the Intel Core Architecture.

"Conroe," "Merom," and "Woodcrest" = Core 2 Duo ("Conroe" and "Merom")/Xeon 5100 ("Woodcrest"). All part of Generation Two of the Intel Core Architecture.

Therefore:

Both "Conroe" and "Merom" chips are marketed as "Core 2 Duo," even though they have more in common with Woodcrest chips
("Xeon 5100's") than Yonah chips ("Core Duo").
