For those of you who are jazz composers/arrangers (Darcy, Christopher S, Carl D, Chuck I). I do drum parts with slashes in layer 1 and cues in layer 4.
It it still a common practice to put any bass cues in layer 2?

I usually put cues above the staff in layer 3, which I have set specifically for this task (stems always up, ties always flipped, rests shifted by 6 steps, and then after it is all entered I select all with Show Active Layer Only and reduce it to 75%).

Cues below the staff I use layer 4 with the settings similar to layer 3, but down. Layer 2 in my scores is generally occupied elsewhere (piano, choral, harp and drum parts that use multiple voices).

Each time I get a new JazzFont Default file, I have to edit the Slash Notation staff style to show items in other layers, as well as Items Attached, otherwise my cues disappear. I don't know why they changed this default, starting around Finale 2002, but I always change it back. I get a lot of questions about this from my students, too.
