Thanks for explaining page view vs. scroll view David. After hours of hastle, I did find a work around. I removed optimization/optimized staves/put brackets on all single staves which were already there since it's for single stave guitar/used Ctrl-Shift to highlight all the staves except for the one at the bottom of the page/stretched it up to the next staff to connect the two staves. This is a weird way I'm sure, but it did work. I hope this might help anyone else who may run across the same problem.
Thanks so much for all your help David.

You need to add a second staff to each system. Finale treats each staff in a single-staff score as its own system, and you can't put brackets across systems.

So add a second staff, which will be empty, define a group for those two staves and then you can place a bracket.

You will have to copy and paste to get the music you want sounding together into the empty staff of the system.

You have run into a big problem that arises from entering the music in page view, if you aren't a veteran Finale user -- you thought that the two staves you entered the music on would be related to each other. No such luck.

I hope this helps -- thanks for adding the outline of how you set things up, it's clear now why you can't add a bracket where you think you should be able to add one.

I used the setup wizard to get a page for guitar, no template and didn't add any staves. There wasn't a grand staff since the guitar setup was for single staves which I'm wondering is the reason I can't insert (put) a piano bracket to two staves. Maybe I need to cut and paste the music on this page to a piano set up with piano brackets, then delete the piano brackets that I don't wan't. I'll send you the page directly since I don't think I should send it on the forum.
Thanks,
George

Friends,

I've so far kept my oar out of this puddle, because I'm not sure I have enough information to make a meaningful contribution. For example, when George Ports wrote:
Is there a way to put a piano bracket connecting two guitar (single staves)? These are not piano staves........will that make a difference? I have winfin2006b.

I'm not sure what he means by "two guitar (single staves)". It would help to know exactly how you started the file. Did you start "from scratch"? Did you use the set-up wizard? If you use a template for the score, which one? Have you added any staves that might be between the two guitar staves? Have you moved the position of either (or both) of the guitar staves within the grand staff since you set up the score?

I'm not going to venture a guess on what the problem is, but if you want to email me a copy of the file, I'll be happy to see if I can find a solution.
