I have a lot of French scores, some recent, some older and and some dating back

stems do carry though and others don't), but I can't find a score where the
staff lines are removed. There are cases where the lines are hardly visible,
for instance in certain scores where the beams are thick and close together,
but on close inspection the staff lines do in fact continue.

To be honest I wonder whether blanking out staff lines is actually nearly impossible in hand engraved scores? It would certainly make the work much more difficult and lengthy.
