Yes, your last point was a point I made in reply to the original post (it showed up HOURS later than I had sent it; I wonder why?)
Both the links you supplied are dated AFTER Finale started using the term. I knew what tuplets were instinctively the first time I used Finale with no explanation necessary. I suspect the term came into being with Finale, but everyone uses it now.
