They're expensive ($120 ea.), so I'm wondering if anyone has
experience with these. Note that these have more LEDs than the older
model (17 instead of 9), so if you've used the older one, it won't
necessarily be a valid comparison (unless the 9-LED version was very
good already).
Probably very good, but definitely overpriced. The Concertlight is
priced comparably, something like $120 with a 3-hour rechargeable
battery, $160 with a 6-hour pack, and uses flourescent technology
rather than LED. I have their lesser model, the Giglight, which uses
one LED and is plenty bright and pretty well illuminates 2 pages at
about $40. And they're about to come out with a Super Giglight with
4xs the light output for around $20 more. Since these lights use
focusing lenses, the number of LEDs is less important than the way
the light is focused. The newer Might Bright has two heads that can
be individually aimed to cover 2 pages.
Major variable between makers is what is included in the base price.
The battery eliminator/charger is sometimes extra.
My only problem with the Giglight is that the battery cover didn't
grip tightly and released pressure on the AA batteries, causing the
light to go out. They sent me a replacement cover which SO FAR seems
to work OK. ALL of the lights using replaceable alkaline batteries
claim much longer useful life than the battery-pack Concertlights.
My backup light is an old-style Mighty Bright with screwin tungsten
bulb--NOT VERY GOOD!
But if you have vision problems, you need to address them. Been
there, done that (only it was cataracts; I now have bionic eyes).
Best of luck!
