Also a few other things I forgot to mention in my last post:

If you have Appleworks on your mac right now, try using the simple database within that (there are various small database set ups in the templates folder) you never know, it may prove to be enough for your needs but will certainly give you an idea and feel of how Filemaker Pro and Bento work as it is based around the same application.

You can always easily import this data to a Filemaker pro file at a later date - I find this very easy to do.

Please don't go down the spreadsheet route - I know of libraries that use this method and although the learning curve is easy for input, the flexibility is very constrained and you will find you are soon restricted to what you can produce in the way of reporting the various information in ways that you want it to take.
