Just to let you know:

I'm involved in a slow conversation with Matt K. (I don't know his last name), one of the people at the "helpdesk" at Makemusic. Discussing the current limitations of the expression assignment lists (nowadays called staff lists), he asked (sounding a little surprised):

There are 8 staff lists - can you give me an example of where you would use a 9th? I would be happy to provide the example to our developers.

and I responded with:

I suppose you don't read the SHSU mailing list?
I posted a message comparing the staff assignment list with a colour pencil box - removing certain colours from it just because some people just don't know how to use their colours right. I *do* know how to use the assignment lists. I use them kind of like style sheets in DTP programs. I design them very methodically. For example (and I've said this already on the SHSU list): in an orchestral piece I create a list for all wood instruments, one for all brass instruments, one for the strings, etcetera. When the composer wishes to add an instrument to one of the groups, I add it to the appropriate list, to ensure myself that it too gets all the markings the others in the group already have. To restrict this tool is to restrict *me*. I use it for safety, and you have taken that away. I'm definitively *not* happy, and I'll be going back to version 2008 and staying there as soon as I have finished this Mendelssohn project.
