One thing that is always worth a giggle to me in the Wikipedia article
is the reference to African-Americans - in CANADA. I suppose the
politically-correct thing is to refer to geography rather than to
race, but the race IS the issue here, not the geography. I hear people
referring to African-Americans when they obviously mean black, even
when referring to actual Africans. It's not so much that I mind
political correctness, I just don't like it when it replaces actual
thought.

Several years ago I was hired to write a work for narration and
orchestra about a group of 107 slaves, oops, I mean enslaved
African-Americans, that were brought into Southern Indiana and freed by
a white couple in 1814. I co-wrote the narration with a woman who is a
descendant of one of that group - a very dear person whose friendship I
treasure - but at the same time her total PC-ness with the terms was a
test. No ""black:" or "slave," etc. It took some work to use terms
that suited her but still let the narration flow.
