I've just sent off a strongly worded complaint to Microsoft. In MSWord,
it is simply too easy to shrink text down to 6 point size. As of now,
some idiot and his idiot publisher could publish a novel using 6 point
type, and this would be a terrible thing! I told MS that they should
either make these font sizes much, much harder to select, or eliminate
them altogether. (I feel tempted, every time I see them.)

I read your comment as "in comparison to Sibelius," which if I recall
correctly, is much more rigid with the way it allows you to size
systems.
No, I wasn't really comparing it. It's just always struck me as a
temptation in Finale to shrink things to avoid going over onto an
additional page. And I wouldn't call Sibelius' approach exactly
rigid. One click takes you to Document Setup, you choose inches,
points, or millimeters, and then there are a bunch of choices for
staves, margins, and staff margins.
I actually preferred Composer's Mosaic, in which you not only could
but had to specify staff size (in points). Once I learned the sizes I
wanted it was a breeze and I set up templates. And like Sibelius, the
staff size controlled the size of other things on the staff as well,
which I guess is pretty standard.
