where does the downward stem extend to? if the stems extend all a uniform length (octave for ex.) i would find that incredibly ugly. but extended to a common line on the staff or position below the staff could be a better looking design... i realize this is for notation i am unfamiliar with that may have its own established standards, but there is my view on it 8-)
