Hi Katherine. I use Finale's internal sounds, and every time I set up a new file or even add a new instrument to a file I'm working on, Finale winds up set to "Play Finale through audio units" instead of "Play Finale through midi". Change to the "through midi" option if not already selected (in the midi/audio menu) and see what happens. The other provides unpredictable playback (at least for me) when using Finale's internal sounds.
Not familiar with the second feature you describe. Hope this helps.
