Although that is true, the problem is that you might have to set the ip address manually, which, if the card doesn't support Bonjour, means you will have to Telnet into it. That's a little tricky (although not impossible). And if the ip address is set to 0.0.0.0 it may be necessary to reset the card first. All I am saying is that one used to be able to use Apple Talk, but with recent MacOs this is non-functional. The easiest way to set up the printer is through Bonjour, if it supports it. It should then show up as a standard printer (mine certainly does), although it may take several minutes until it is recognized on the network. As soon as you can see it in the Bonjour submenu of Safari you can set it up easily. But older JetDirect Cards may not support this. On the other hand these cards are sold for very little on Ebay, I got mine a few years ago for 20 Euros or so. Whatever the case, the HP5000 works just fine with recent MacOS once it has been set up properly.
