well, particularly since it is an emergency job, practicality should come WAAAAAAAAAAAY before idealogy. position the starts / ends of the hairpins to work well in the parts with the necessary compromise in the score. that is the most important thing. the conductor can adjust, an orchestra won't.
although (as you know) i believe in certain ideals as well, i always win this argument effortlessly: make the composer aware that s/he has to make the choice between a sexy looking score and musicians performing their music properly. put it in blunt terms like that and crunch out the materials, if the composer argues now about it, s/he won't after the rehearsals. when time is an issue, i'm sorry, but fuck ideology. in my experience, any self-respecting composer understands and accepts the lesser compromise to avoid the greater. [i got excited, thought darcy had some keen clue but no, as he said, there is no way to use custom smart shapes to make hairpins] do NOT do this using shape designer if it is a large score. the only way to do it is to use metatool assignment, which creates a new copy for every instance and bloats the document massively. and of course you have to switch between the expression and smart shape tool to edit... IMO not the solution for your current situation. _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [email protected] http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
