Hi Linda,

In speedy or simple note entry one has to enter real whole rests on
purpose, in lieu of the default whole rests that show in empty measures, so
it's always seemed to me an efficient way to keep from hiding a staff.  If
I recall correctly, that was also the method used to preserve staves when
optimizing.

I'm curious how these hard rests are getting in your scores--is it via
importing midi or some such preliminary format?
