yeah my mac dude had suggested that and i will eventually upgrade to an SSD
drive replacing my DVD.  my plan to use the external drive as the home for the
new system was so i could get working as soon as possible and postpone the
expenses involved in the new drive for a few weeks, i just finished up a really
expensive project so things are tight.  that would have given me the possibility
to have 10.6.8 on the internal and yosemite on the SSD drive.  then things went
haywire.
