The HP 5000 is indeed 1200 dpi. I don't consider 600 dpi good enough for
publishable-quality music -- e.g., aliasing (stairstepping) is visible on
angled beams and cresc./decresc.

I had a lot of problems with jamming when I had a duplexer for my HP 5000
(ultimately I returned it). I bought a refurbished unit in 2004, and it
wouldn't duplex 11x17 at all. You may remember Andrew Stiller, who was a
frequent contributor to the Finale mailing list before he passed away; he had a
lot of experience with the HP 5000 duplexer and advised cleaning the rollers
with alcohol, which did help. According to Andrew -- I think he had gone
through 2 duplexers at that point -- the duplexer works fine when new, but
deteriorates significantly over time, until after a couple of years of heavy
use it won't work at all (even cleaning the rollers didn't help at that point).
Since a new unit was unavailable even in 2004, I chalked it up to a flawed
design and went back to manual duplexing.

I hope HP has learned to make more reliable duplexers over the years. The one
in my HP M712DN does seem much more "industrial strength" than the HP 5000
duplexer, and I've been using it for more than 2 years without a single jam.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Isn’t the 5000 a 1200 dpi printer? I bought two of them for $25, mixed &
matched parts, replaced one separator pad and got a workhorse. I could swear
it’s 1200 dpi...
Does anyone have trouble with the duplexer jamming? If so, is there a good fix?

Sent from my iPhone, so please pardon all the typos.
