I don't seem to have a ~/.xinitrc file. I tried making one with the "autocutsel &" 
line above but that doesn't work. 

I also tried adding it to my ~/.orobxinitrc file but that didn't work for me either. I 
don't see any line in there with "exec wmaker". 

Finally I tried adding it to my /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc file right before the "twm" 
command but that too failed to work for me. I had to sudo to edit the file. 

So where should I run autocutsel?
