Hi Emmanuel, Welcome to Fink
I am a very new user of fink (today).I installed the Xfree 4.2.0 binary version for Darwin with the Xinstall.sh script (is that wrong?).Seems like you're trying to do something funny. ;-)
Then when I try to install system-xfree86 (apt-get install system-xfree86)
I get the following message :
"Your XFree86 installation is incomplete. The following files are missing:
/usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xlib.h
You may have an old version without shared libraries. That is not sufficient
to run downloaded binary packages. Please install XFree86 4.2.0 or later
manually or consider installing the xfree86-base package."
I also install the XonX xfree 4.2.0.1 and 4.2.1 updates and that does not make any difference for that problem(I don't have yet gcc installed on my mac)
Am I clear? wrong somewhere?
First off, XFree86 binary installer you get from XonX project and one from Fink are different, and Fink has no control over X11 packages installed by XonX installer.
You don't need to install "system-xfree86" package as far as you've installed X manually. Doesn't the description of "system-xfree86" say that it's a virtul package? This means that you CAN'T install it from Fink.
REAL fink X11 packages are:
xfree86-base (or xfree86-base-threaded)
xfree86-shlibs (or xfree86-shlibs-threaded)
xfree86-rootless (or xfree86-rootless-threaded)
xfree86-rootless-shlibs (or xfree86-rootless-shlibs-threade)
You can check this with 'fink apropos "xfree86*"' on Terminal (or FinkCommander in a different way).
Additinally, why did you use Xinstall.sh? Did you do it manually from Terminal?? Instead of launching XFree86 installer application from Finder?
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kow
