You *do* install "system-xfree86" from Fink, it is a placeholder so that Fink knows that you've installed X by other means (in this case, by running the Xinstall.sh for 4.2.0, and then upgrading with the XonX packages). It sounds like Emmanuel did the right thing, but somehow things ended up missing. Emmanuel, the thing that is missing Xlib.h is not the system-xfree86 package, per se, but the binary installers you ran.
