Well, after some experimentation and careful consideration, I decided to report it to Apple as a bug in Terminal. My thought was this: since the Window Settings window allows you to set a global preference item that it does not display nor let you change, then it is doing something naughty. The fact that Fink Commander sent Terminal a request to open a window with an ExecuteString set is not the problem, the problem is that Terminal is allowing you to set a preference through the UI which you can't see or change. I think as a user, it is reasonable to expect that if I am presented with a set of options and a button with which to set them, they are the only ones being set. You wouldn't want Terminal to save an "rm -r *" into your window settings for your next login. An unlikely example I know, but I think it deserves to be labelled a bug and fixed. I'll let you know what comes out of Apple.
