I recently updated my fink installation to current, and I worked great. Suddenly, though, whenever I run fink, I always receive messages like:
Unrecognized character \xDA at /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/Engine.pm line 1. Compilation failed in require at /sw/bin/fink line 117. The messages vary slightly depending on which fink flags I'm using, e.g. a fink --help gets: Unrecognized character \xDA at /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/FinkVersion.pm line 1. Compilation failed in require at /sw/bin/fink line 61. ...but the net effect is always the same, a completely busted Fink. What to do? Updating with apt-get from CVS doesn't replace anything. The binary installs won't work if previous installations exist, and there don't appear to be any "uninstall fink" directions on the fink website. Additionally, google doesn't show any matches for finding fink "Unrecognized character" issues. I'm running Jaguar (10.2.3) on a PMG4/733, and the only think I can think of that happened between the last time Fink was working OK and now was that I installed X11 and OroborOSX. My apologies if this is a dumb question, but I am at a loss for what to do here.
