Fink is now installed on my iMac, but it seems to be bad in a fundamental way. If this situation cannot be fixed, I would appreciate any advise you can give me on how to do a clean reinstallation of fink.
The command 'fink -V' shows that I have Package manager version: 0.11.1 Distribution version: 0.5.1.cvs and 'fink list' indicates that exactly three packages are installed that are not up-to-date. These are (i) apt 0.5.4-8 Advanced front-end for dpkg (i) apt-shlibs 0.5.4-8 Advanced front-end for dpkg (i) dpkg 1.10.9-2 The Debian package manager The comand 'dpkg --version' shows that I am, in fact, running version 1.9.20 (darwin-powerpc) of 'dpkg'. Be that as it may, I have found it absolutely impossible to update 'dpkg' to a more recent version. Each of the commands fink install dpkg fink selfupdate-cvs fink update-all fink reinstall dpkg produce the same final result: can't find curses file make[2]: *** [curkeys.h] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all-dselect] Error 2 make: *** [all-recursive] Error 2 ### execution of failed, exit code 2 Failed: compiling dpkg-1.10.9-2 failed Trying to upgrade 'dpkg' via 'apt-get' has also proved fruitless. The commands sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install dpkg only give me an apology: Sorry, dpkg is already the newest version. 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. So where do I go from here? Is there some fix for this situation, or is there some way I can cleanly reinstall fink and start all over? It is very frustrating to be constantly told that a fundamental package needs to be updated, and then, after considerable churning, to be informed that such an update is impossible to to the lack of a 'curses' file -- among other things. Fink advertises itself as a package management system, but my system seems to be too accursed to be managed. Any ideas on a way out of this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
