No change, Andrew. 'ncurses v5.2-9' was installed. I reinstalled it, but
'fink selfupdate-cvs' still produced the same results:
   can't find curses file
   make[2]: *** [curkeys.h] Error 1
   make[1]: *** [all-dselect] Error 2
   make: *** [all-recursive] Error 2
   ### execution of failed, exit code 2
   Failed: compiling dpkg-1.10.9-2 failed

I think I'll reinstall fink. Perl 5.6.1 is about the only fink application
I use regularly right now. I'll just have to remember to get rid of the
symbolic link pointing '/usr/bin/perl' at '/sw/bin/perl' and use Apple's
Perl 5.6.0 until I reinstall fink and Perl 5.6.1.

Thanks again for your advice and interest!

Regards,

Vic

I just checked, and the new version of dpkg is only in the source
distribution, so "apt-get" can't see it.

Try reinstalling ncurses, and redo the "fink selfupdate-cvs".
If you wind up wanting to do a clean reinstall, you just need to erase
/sw (or wherever you installed fink).
