Here's the last Virex-relevant message that I found on the lists:

"Check whether you have any of openssl-shlibs dlcompat-shlibs 
curl-ssl-shlibs installed:"

 fink list -i openssl-shlibs dlcompat-shlibs curl-ssl-shlibs

If any one of these shows up, then reinstall it, either from binaries 
via apt-get/dselect/FinkCommander, or from source, using 'fink
reinstall'.

The message said that the reinstall "might" break Virex, but I haven't
seen anything beyond that.

Here's a question:  It looks like you installed R without using fink. 
If this is so, why is it looking in /sw/lib for libraries?
