It ran without a hiccup and I can now run fink and Virex 7.2 I assume everything is OK but I haven't really put fink to the test yet. Checking what versions of the libraries I have gives this:
[nilsmac:~] nilscrompton% fink list -i openssl-shlibs dlcompat-shlibs curl-ssl-shlibs

Here's the last Virex-relevant message that I found on the lists:
"Check whether you have any of openssl-shlibs dlcompat-shlibs
curl-ssl-shlibs installed:"
fink list -i openssl-shlibs dlcompat-shlibs curl-ssl-shlibs
If any one of these shows up, then reinstall it, either from binaries
via apt-get/dselect/FinkCommander, or from source, using 'fink
reinstall'.
The message said that the reinstall "might" break Virex, but I haven't
seen anything beyond that.

Here's a question: It looks like you installed R without using fink.
If this is so, why is it looking in /sw/lib for libraries?

Hi.--
I am trying to get a statistical software package set up (R), but get
errors due to missing libraries which are apparently available via
fink. (below)
I also have Virex 7, since that's the package my university is supporting.
At the end of the day, I have two objectives:
1. have the appropriate libraries for my statistics package
2. run Virex.
Is there any way I could get the libraries manually or some other way
other than fink?
If not, could I get rid of Virex, install fink, get the libraries,
remove fink (keeping the libraries), and then reinstall Virex?
I am running OS X (10.2.3), and worked as a part-time unix sys admin
when I was in college several years ago so I have some latent computer
literacy.

[localhost:~] jerboa% R
dyld: /usr/local/lib/R/bin/R.bin can't open library:
/sw/lib/libreadline.4.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Trace/BPT trap
I checked and the permissions on R.bin are fine, so this error seems
only to be about the missing library.
