Alexander-

Thanks again for the response and suggestions.

I have tried (many times) fink index. The last attempt was to use the instructions from Fink's FAQs for resetting the CVS directories:

sudo find /sw/fink -type d -name 'CVS' -exec rm -rf {} \;

followed by a fink selfupdate-cvs. gnome-core-2.0.3-3 now appears in my fink list. Curiously, Fink Commander reports my gnome-core is outdated, but the unstable version it reports is 1.4.1-3, not 2.03-3.

I had previously moved the copy of bundle-gnome-2.0.3-2 from the unstable tree to local. That was the only way it would show up in fink list.

I am concerned that these anomalies in the list indicate problems which would affect installation of Gnome 2 if attempted.

Have you tried a "fink index"? That seems to do the trick fairly often
in these cases.

O.k., I'm stuck. I've looked at the faqs, etc. and I'm still confused.

Problem: bundle-gnome version 2 does not appear in my package
database (fink list). I do have the unstable paths specified in my fink
configuration. Moreover, if I do a find, bundle-gnome-2.0.3-2.info
shows up where it's supposed to. If I move the
/sw/fink/10.2/unstable/main/finkinfo/gnome folder out of the way, a new
gnome folder with bundle-gnome-2.0.3-2.info is created when I
selfupdate-cvs.

Background: I did a selfupdate-cvs a couple of days ago, followed by
update-all. I didn't realize gnome-bundle-2 had been added and my gnome
installation became unusable. Because I depend on gnumeric, the quick
and dirty solution was to replace my /sw directory with a three-day-old
backup. Gnome (old gnome) runs fine, but the problem described above is
troubling.

I (to a fault) regularly do the selfupdate-cvs/update-all routine.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions which would result in repairing the
(apparently) damaged package database.

Thanks-
