Does system-xfree86 need to know which X11 is installed?
I ask because I'm preparing a setup in which I have *both* Apple's X11 and the XonX Xfree86 installed, with a little shell script to swap between them. Will fink care, or will I have to re-install system-xfree86 every time I make the swap and need to use a fink X11 application?
AFAICT it doesn't care. It doesn't actually *do* anything. Apart from telling the other fink packages that you have X11 installed, during its installation it only *checks* whether you have a complete xfree86 installation. What you do afterwards is your own business.
