If I look in fink commander, it doesn't list me as having gtk+ or giflib. It keeps telling me that the packages are not installed. Is there another way I can remove these besides the apt-get remove command?
here is what happened:
[ip68-97-37-113:~] jseila% sudo apt-get remove gtk+

Package giflib is not installed, so not removed

Somehow, you have giflib and gtk+ without x11, and it's confusing the package manager. If you don't want X11, then try to remove them. This issues is totally independent of mysql.

I am not sure why I would need X11 but it seems to want it. If this is already answered in the FAQs I apologize for asking this again, but I looked through them and couldn't find any answers. Any help would be appreciated.
