OK, I think I see what's going on:

This looks like you had tried to install gtk+ and giflib at some time in
the past and gave up.  Unfortunately, they are still marked as needing
to be installed, even though they aren't going to be.

Try running

dpkg -s giflib-bin

and see what that says.
