First of all, how do you get fink to get the UNSTABLE source for Abiword?? I can't seem to do it in Fink Commander. What's the fink (command-line) way of doing it?

Well, if you want to use unstable for everything, you can edit the file "/sw/etc/fink.conf". Near the top of that file there is a line that starts with "Trees:" I use unstable and it looks like this on mine machine:
Trees: local/main stable/main stable/crypto local/bootstrap unstable/main unstable/crypto

If you only want to install the unstable version of abiword, you can try this (WARNING: i have not tried this!)

apt-get install abiword/unstable

Secondly, and I know this isn't a FINK question, how can I use the BASH shell instead of TCSH?? I don't know how to do this. It was easy in Linux but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm using XDarwin (v.4.3.0) with Blackbox (rootless). I have tried changing this in the preferences, but it doesn't work. And, there's no change when I run Terminal (or iTerm).

If the method you used under Linux was to edit the password file, and you want to duplicate that, you want to look in NetInfo Manager. It apparently replaces several config files, but I haven't looked into it all that deeply yet.

Otherwise, you can specify a path for Terminal under preferences. To find the full path, type "which bash" at any shell prompt.

hope that helps.
