In my case, I needed to RE-install the X11 SDK frome the Xcode CD.

You DID install it, didn't you?

Twice or three times for X11 Fink left it un runnable a few times. Is the X11 SDK a 2nd package which needs to be installed seperatly?

If you merely want to run X11 from Apple, all you need is X11 from Apple, which you say you have installed several times.

If you desire to use Fink and Fink software with Apple's X11, and particularly if you want to be able to successfully compile from source, you will need both Apple's Xcode developer's tools AND the X11 SDK (software development kit).

It is a separate install, not included in the default installation.
