I would remove all these, first via the soft approach and then, if it doesn't work, using the big gun.

Giving this advice, I am assuming that you are not playing these perl-specific games of installing some odd version of perl just for the fun of it, but you are, like me, just using the perl that comes with OSX.

I am just using (or rather trying to use) the perl that's required to get gnucash to install and work;-)

Seems to me that I need to install guile, right?

Rather guile16-dev, I would say. But this is a BuilDepends of gnucash, so it should be installed already. Weird.

Well, it doesn't seem to: here is the output of "fink list | grep guile"
guile 1.4-27 Embedable Scheme interpreter
i guile-dev 1.4-27 Embedable Scheme interpreter
i guile-shlibs 1.4-27 Embedable Scheme interpreter
i guile16 1.6.4-21 Embedable Scheme interpreter
guile16-dev 1.6.4-21 Development package for guile16
i guile16-libs 1.6.4-21 Scheme libraries and modules for guile16
i guile16-shlibs 1.6.4-21 Shared libraries for guile16
slib-gu14 2d6-1 Portable scheme library for guile
i slib-gu16 2d6-1 Portable scheme library for guile16

On the other hand, Fink Commander says the status of guile16-dev is "archived".
Installing guile16-dev did indeed generated the needed library (and removed guile-dev that has been previously installed).

And 'fink install gnucash' finally completed sucessfully. Many thanks to Martin!
