I had the same exact problem a while ago.  I had posted my solution,

but can't seem to find it right now.  Anyway, the way I solved this

was to install the binary using apt-get.  For some reason I did 'fink 

install' and it never worked; all plugins were missing even when I 

would 'rebuild'.  I removed xmms, then installed it via apt-get and

it works just fine now.  I still don't know why it would not build, but I 

got it to work.



Also, I have done many selfupdates and update-all commands and I

have seen xmms in there, and all still works.



The short answer would be try using apt-get.
