I suspect this is the head/HEAD problem mentioned in Fink FAQ#5.4 http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/comp-general.php#head


Look in /usr/bin and in /sw/bin. If you find a HEAD there that runs instead of /usr/bin/head, then you need to get rid of it.

If it is your /usr/bin/head that got overwritten with /usr/bin/HEAD by a rogue perl module, you need to get the original executable back, for example from here: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/costabel/head

If it is /sw/bin/HEAD, then just move it away (and try to find out where it came from).
