I have /usr/bin/head (not /usr/bin/HEAD or sw/bin/HEAD), so that's probably not the problem, right?
And this /usr/bin/head looks like what? What do you get from "what /usr/bin/head"? It should say something like
/usr/bin/head

PROGRAM:head PROJECT:text_cmds-30 DEVELOPER:root BUILT:Fri Sep 12 18:53:03 PDT 2003
If your /usr/bin/head is really the original one, then you should also look in /usr/local/bin.
