Hi

Apologies if this is off-topic, but maybe it relates to package management or configuration in Fink ...

I'm running Mac OS X 10.3 on a powerbook. I installed Fink 0.7.1, then used Fink Commander to install 'bundle-gnome'.

I then created a .profile for my account, and included '. /sw/bin/init.sh'.

I copied /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc to ~/.xinitrc - I edited this to contain only 'exec /sw/bin/gnome-session' after '# start some nice programs'.

I then launched the XDarwin app, and ran it in Full Screen mode. Gnome started up fine (though all desktop icons were the default document icons). Okay so far.

I then open a terminal window, and ssh to a Linux server. I try doing 'gnome-system-monitor' from the command line in my ssh session. I get:

        Gnome / Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

When I do this from any other remote Linux machine, it works okay. Am I running the wrong xfree86 packages, or have I configured something wrong? Or is this impossible on Mac OS X?

Thank you VERY MUCH for your help!

        Bruno.
