well, that just makes it all the more frustrating ! The size of the files is neither here nor there - its the fact that I can't access them that's the problem. My system administrator donesn't know what the problem is (and is probably not predisposed to spending time on it, as he doesn't support macs - he's linux/windows only - go figure :) ). > > Sourceforge's CVS access can be unreliable, so it's not impossible > that you hit it during one of the periods where was under heavy load. I tried several times over the last two days always with the same result - and your machine is promting me for a password so surely that means I'm communicating with it. > > > If you do need a proxy, then that's a different matter. I'd like to know if anyone has succeeded in using CVS from Leopard - and if so what they did different from me. Alternatively - would it be possible to distribute fink via ftp ? What's the reason for not doing that ? My only other choice is either to put this damn machine in the back of the car and haul it home every time I want to install something, or install fink plus all the code I want on my wife's laptop and then copy her sw directory here (would that work ?). Niether of these options is really satisfatory ! If anyone can give me advice tuned for the non-expert I'd appreciate it. cheers Nick > > Nick Hall wrote: >> PS: >> >> I've just realised that maybe my problem amounts to installing the >> CVS proxy - >> I tried this as per instructions: >> >> fink --use-binary-dist install cvs-proxy >> Password: >> Scanning package description files.......... >> Information about 269 packages read in 0 seconds. >> WARNING: could not read /sw/fink/10.5/VERSION: No such file or >> directory >> WARNING: unable to determine last selfupdate time.
