Quoting my answer

=================================
You're linking to an X11 other than the default one that comes with
the operating system, and we _only_ support the latter. Do you have
Macports installed, too?

My best recommendation is for you to rename /opt/local temporarily
while you build with Fink.
=================================

To Paul:

Do you have Macports installed? Or did you install XQuartz for Lion?
 We don't support mixing with either of those.

Could you send me (off-list) the config.log file from the libplplot10
build directory (in /sw/src) ? It might be the case that we can make
sure that it always finds the X11 in /usr/X11.
