Ultimately, you have to factor in one thing, what is the goal of the fink

source, I'm sure it can be downloaded and modified as you see fit.
You know, that is worth reading again. And again. And again.

Another thing to keep in mind is that projects built for Mac OS X typically can be imported into Project Builder. And PB has CVS capabilities. That's what I use if I want the latest built-from-source app for Mac OS X. There are alternatives.

Fink is doing great managing the libraries and other apps that use those libraries that aren't Mac OS X native. Admittedly, this is a new problem surfacing, and so the initial panic when the tool you relied on (i.e. fink) no longer meets all of your needs. Let's not limit our viewpoints on what needs to be done by putting all of the responsibility onto fink. There are always alternatives, and that's how fink came into existence in the first place.

This has gotten off topic from the real issue at hand. How about starting over? Let's see what the real problem is and then we can refine the problem further. Afterwards, we can reliably find a path to the possible solutions and tools. Maybe fink can be a tool as part of a solution. Right now it's all ass-backwards: a solution was picked (i.e. fink) and now it's being forced to solve the next problem that appeared.

Think of fink as a pair of scissors intended to cut string. If the new problem is to cut thick metal wires, do we just take the first cutting tool that comes to mind and try to make it work? If we need wire cutters, then use wire cutters instead of the scissors. Each tool does it's own job well, but can't do the other as well.

It sounds like the problem has something to do with a collection of string and metal wires, sometimes mixed together. Hence there'll likely be a few tools needed to solve it in the immediate future. Let's not dull the scissors with our insistence.
