We've already deleted OS X, although against my will, so we can't try that.
More than the permissions for / were just screwed up, though. The OS X
install disk, which we used to originally install OS X, said something about
different languages and wouldn't go past the disk-selection step; that's why
we deleted it. We'll try the install again later.

To help you diagnose the problem with changing permissions, I'll point out
that we ran the 0.4.0 installer twice (with two months in-between) with no
problems. However, the receipt may have been deleted in-between those
installations. We also ran the 0.4.1 installer on top of an existing
installation, with no problems. We then (immediately) ran it again *after*
deleting the fink installation, but *without* deleting the receipt that the
.pkg left. This seems to also have been Andy Cunningham's problem.

In the little I know about .pkg programming, this doesn't seem fixable. It
seems that, especially with all of the other .pkg problems, it would be
easier to create/license a .app installer.
