You may install binaries, if there are those available for your packages. Also, sometimes binaries are not as up-to-date as source packages. I usually use FinkCommander for installing packages. It does have a GUI for installing source and binaries. I don't know how do install binaries with dselect or apt-get, but I am sure that it is possible. The best way is to read the man pages.
